Latest Star Trek series. After few movies on the the Star Trek: The Next Generation, it's now back to the original, classic version of the Star Trek, without the original cast (except Leonard Nimoy of course).

As with the movie itself, I like the fast pace, action packed style with many nicely-done CG scenes. The spaceship battles are done nicely even though I would like to have some more. Although the design of the star ship is old but it's redrew and modernised, making it look a lot nicer.

Since I have read the storyline of the Star Trek Countdown (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Countdown,_Number_One) before I watched the movie, I felt I could understand the villain captain Nero a bit more. Erica Bana certainly did a good job but I felt he was not mentioned enough to make people who did not know Countdown to fully feel about his action.

Certainly this movie is about Kirk and Spock and little bit of the rest of the leading crew members of NC1701 Enterprise. I did not watch many episodes of the classic Star Trek but some of the circumstances showed in the movie about how those crew members got on board was certainly interesting. Also the twist they made with the emotions of young Spock and personal relationship with girls was certainly interesting. However apart from Kirk and Spock, development of characters of other crew members are a bit shallow, maybe because Paramount doesn't want this movie to ruin the characters developed/played out in the classic series...I don't know.

The movie is a bit short to fully tell the story, yet it's long enough to appreciate the beginning of era that moved many Star Trek fans. Even the initial battle of USS Kelvin was moving enough.

The music score, impressed me a lot. I liked that it was similar in style closer to the classic series, yet not too retro and outdated. Also watching the movie in the cinema made me fully appreciate the effect of the music. That's what makes me go into the cinema watch the movie on big screen.

There are little parts in the movie that is funny and won't require Star Fleet knowledge to understand. I like it this way.

All in all, I like the movie a lot. I only watched few Star Trek movies, and this is how I will rank it. Star Trek 2009 > First Contact > Generations/Insurrections/Nemesis. I would also recommend this to people who had never watched Star Trek before but like Sci-Fi genre movies (but if they know a bit more about ST, it's better of course :)).
