APPLE OS X Lion, iCloud and other istuff...
Apple unveiled OSX Lion with new features, and iCloud.
The so-called "new" features and functions provided by "Lion" and "iCloud" aren't really that much of new ideas. Most of those features can in some way be provided by 3rd parties soft-wares.
They do, however, make OSX/iOS becomes very very adhesive.
I have used OSX and I owned an iMAC before. It was very good but I could just switch the platform because most of the soft-wares I use are not platform dependent. So I could use Linux today, Windows tomorrow or OSX/iOS as long it's about me doing something on the internet (not play special games or trying to use special accounting soft-ware).
OSX Lion and improvements just joined those functions/soft wares together, so when I start to use it, I don't have to look somewhere else. Once I started paying for those service, it would be very hard for me to use other supplier (another reason I haven't really start buying any music/books/movies on iTunes store, I like to be able to move freely, even if it's just emotion tie). Here they are truly amazing.
Comparing windows and osx, here we have windows 3.0 -> 98 -> ME -> 2000 -> XP -> 7 and all the functions/small programs that came with it pretty much stayed the same. They don't gain many new features nor do we see anything new from MS that would integrate those soft-wares. Further between notepad/wordpad/Messenger/Painter? Didn't see anything new coming... Movie Maker and Photo Gallery with Windows Live were good programs but I can't see any special...it seems Windows 7 only has Messenger/IE and games are more connected/related to the Internet. Sure you have OFFICE and stuff, but that's not part of the OS is it?
No wonder Jobs is so proud about being "innovative". When you look at the evolution of OS X you see many little things that makes the OS much more easier to use, at the same time with increase number of new functions. Windows is certainly behind here. Even LINUX is much better in terms of innovation than Windows, when you consider at least 50% of the code were written by people in their spare time, not while they're working.
Will I make a purchase of a new iMAC or Macbook Pro in 2011 or 2012? Frankly, no, I actually started to feel that APPLE's external design looks very plain now everyone gets a Macbook/Pro. However maybe by 2015 I will change my mind again...
